Leed, Green, Sustainable?

Wildflower II Tiny House

Is a tiny house on wheels able to pass LEED, Green, or Sustainable Criteria?

The answer is “no” as one of the major criteria for evaluating under LEED, green, and sustainable rules requires that a structure be anchored to the land or property.

The criteria “identifies a concept and attitude in development that looks at a site’s natural land, water, and energy resources as integral aspects of the development”

Since a tiny house usually is on wheels, or can be easily transported from location to location, they are unable to pass the criteria. Until the rules are changed, a tiny house can be built green and sustainable, and still create a savings for the owners of energy, money, and time.

Press Release

Tiny Green Cabins is a custom green/sustainable tiny home builder.   We are committed to simplicity, health, and freedom for your lifestyle.  Take your Tiny Green Cabin wherever life takes you.  Tiny Green Cabins is celebrating its 3 years of growth and business and looking forward to its 4th year and beyond.

As part of that celebration, we have chosen a fall theme and contest, “Celebrate Your Space,” where tiny home owners can submit a photo of their tiny house in their favorite theme of autumn, Halloween, or Thanksgiving decorations. The contest will end November 15th, with the winners announced on November 24th.

There is an entry fee of $25, which will be donated to The Conservation Fund. Jim grew up with a passion for conservation and supports similar programs. The Conservation Fund combines a passion for conservation with an entrepreneurial spirit to protect your favorite places before they become just a memory. A hallmark of their work is their deep, unwavering understanding that for conservation solutions to last, they need to make economic sense.

A panel of 3 judges will review all the pictures and choose the winners. The judges are Steve Kjelland, Sherry McNeal, and William Chad Warford. We have short bios posted on our website. The winning pictures will also be posted on our website with a link to a Picasso page for overflow. Prizes are posted on the website, and the 1st place winner will receive a pair of solar shutters with inverter. This is a solar collector that mounts on the side of a tiny house as window shutters,  plugs into your electrical system through a standard outlet, and adds electricity to your personal grid.

We also have kicked off a fall promotion on the Wildflower II that includes a “gourmet tiny kitchen package” which includes a refrigerator, range, and stackable washer/dryer  at no extra cost. The Wildflower II with gourmet kitchen package runs through November 15, 2011, ending with the contest.

Concept Plans

A Concept Plan of a larger tiny house

A Concept Plan of a larger tiny house

At Tiny Green Cabins, we are always trying something new. We have been referred to as “chop shop” of tiny houses and micro homes. We are a custom cabin and tiny house builder, so a lot of our ideas are brought to use via people inquiring about if we can do this or that.  This concept plan is from an inquiry asking if we could build a larger cabin that would accommodate a family of 5-7 with one girl. The “Jack and Jill” bedroom is a way to provide some privacy for that tiny house family. The beds would be a bunk bed style with walls closing up one side of the lower bed and the opposite side of the upper bunk. Each  tiny bedroom would have a window, small dresser, and desk.

This plan also has a slide out to expand the living quarters for the larger family. The visitor that compared Tiny Green Cabins to a “chop shop” also said that he could see our thinking outside the box by bringing new ideas/concepts from other building types to create a unique tiny house custom designed by Tiny Green Cabins. The slide out is popular option in RVs as the owners  always want a little more space once they get to the park of campsite.
